ABOUT ME

Alex Hakim, MD

Sleep Medicine Physician

Dr. Hakim is a quadruple boarded physician in Sleep Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.  He trained at top academic programs including Medical School at USC, Residency at UCLA and Sleep Medicine at a combined program with UCLA and Cedars-Sinai.

He is passionate about not only traditional medical care, biology and physiology, but also about the psychosocial contributors to poor sleep and lack of adherence to therapies.  Dr. Hakim understands that we are in a mental health pandemic and wants to provide a personal and comprehensive touch to a frequently neglected part of patient care.  Furthermore, he is eager to help those people who have long feared investigating their sleep related problems due to prior poor experiences with the healthcare system.

MY APPROACH

Organizational Values

  • The doctor-patient relationship is one built on trust.

  • The doctor should be a teacher to empower the patient to make healthier choices rather than the patient being dependent on the physician’s services.

  • Priority is to treat the underlying causes of medical problems over simply treating the symptoms.

  • The psychosocial impact on physiologic health is significant and should be addressed by the clinician.

  • The best healthcare is one that is customized to an individual patient’s needs and abilities.

  • The doctor must always be able to articulate a quality of life and longevity case for any interventions.

  • The use of medication is of last resort and preferably of limited duration.

  • The doctor should be up-to-date with the latest validated medical information in their field.

  • The doctor must be honest about his/her capabilities.

  • In-person patient care is far preferable to virtual visits.
